Child
Health Clinic And Vaccinations
This is a clinic for well babies.
Dr Wain will be present on three days a month to give immunisations
after the initial schedule of immunisations has been discussed. The Practice urges
that all children be fully immunised.
If you require to see the Doctor and/or the Practice Nurse, please make an appointment
with either.
Diabetic Clinic
This is a Nurse-led clinic which
is run weekly. In addition, Dr Cartwright holds a monthly Diabetes Clinic. Please
ask the Receptionist for details.
Diabetic patients who are not followed up by Pilgrim Hospital are managed by the
Practice Team with access to the Diabetic Team at the hospital, if required.
Asthma Clinic
In recognition of the increasing
prevalence of asthma in our community we hold a weekly Asthma Clinic, which is
run by the Practice Nurse. Patients with asthma can either be referred by themselves
or their own GP to the clinic. However, acute problems and emergencies should
be seen within normal surgery consultations. In addition, Dr O'Kelly runs a monthly
Asthma Clinic. Appointments can be made by the Reception staff.
COPD
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
(COPD) is a chronic lung condition encompassing diseases such as bronchitis and
emphysema. Patients suffering from this condition are usually over 40 years of
age, get breathless on exertion, may have a chronic cough and usually (but not
always) have a history of smoking. Dr O'Kelly has a particular interest in this
field and the Practice runs a specialised service to help patients with this
condition. Appointments for the COPD clinics can be made by the Reception staff.
Anti-Coagulation
Therapy
Clinics are held twice a week,
usually on Mondays and Wednesdays for patients on anti-coagulation therapy.
Minor Surgery
And Cryotherapy
Sessions are held at regular intervals,
on an appointment basis, for the removal of skin lesions, warts etc. This is usually
undertaken by the application of liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) or occasionally
by the surgical removal of skin problems.
Sigmoidoscopy
Patients can be referred to Dr
Germer and have this procedure carried out at the Surgery.
Antenatal And
Postnatal Clinics
All Doctors provide Antenatal and
Postnatal care. In addition, a clinic is available on a Tuesday morning by appointment
with the District Midwife in attendance.
Coils
Dr Germer is experienced in coil
fitting and we are able to offer this service to patients.
Well Person Clinic
The Practice Nurses run Well Woman
and Well Man clinics on a regular basis. Appointments can be booked through the
Reception.
Repeat Smears
Women between the ages of 20 and 49 years are encouraged to have a smear every three years and those aged between 50 and 64 every five years. If you are newly registering with the Practice, please inform us of the approximate date of the last cervical smear in order that we can put you into our recall system.
Travel Vaccinations
Please contact the Practice two months
before travelling abroad. The Reception staff will give you a questionnaire to
complete. This will help the Practice Nurse ascertain what vaccinations you will
require for your trip and enable her to give you the best possible advice on all
health issues.
Flu Vaccinations
These are held between October and
January every year. Please see the Practice noticeboard for details
of patients who are encouraged to have a flu vaccination.
Pneumonia Vaccinations
If you are aged 75 or over, you are
strongly advised to have a pneumonia vaccination. Appointments with the Nurse
can be booked at Reception.
NON-NHS EXAMINATIONS
Patients should be aware that fees
may be charged for services not covered by the NHS.
These include private certificates, reports supporting private health insurance
claims and other non-NHS medical reports.
Medical reports and examinations for life insurance are usually paid for by the
insurance company requesting the examination. Fees may be charged for examinations
for other special purposes such as HGV and PSV licences, elderly drivers, fitness
to travel, fitness to drive, fitness to undertake certain sports and signing of
passport application forms.
The fee scale is recommended by the BMA and details are available on request from
the Executive Manager.
